Disclaimer:
Is a good sunscreen all I need to stay safe?
No. Sunscreen can only provide partial protection against harmful effects of the sun. Limiting sun exposure and wearing protective clothing are even more important when it comes to protecting against skin cancer and premature skin aging. Be extra careful about sun exposure during 10 am and 4 pm since the sun's rays are the most intense during this time of the day. When using sunscreen, make sure you apply it generously 30 minutes before going outside and reapply it often — at least every 2 hours. Even the best sunscreen won't work if you don't use it correctly. (ACS 2007; BCC 2003)
Answers to the most common questions regarding our sun protection products:
Does it leave a white residue?
Sunscreen made with Z- Cote zinc oxide does not appear as white as traditional mineral sunscreens. It goes on slightly white but is easily worked in until the white disappears.
Do you use nano size zinc?
We use a micronized zinc oxide which has an average particle size of 200 nm.
Pick your sunscreen: nanomaterials or potential hormone disruptors.
The ideal sunscreen would completely block the UV rays that cause sunburn, immune suppression and damaging free radicals. It would remain effective on the skin for several hours and not form harmful ingredients when degraded by UV light. It would smell and feel pleasant so that people use it in the right amount and frequency.
Unsurprisingly, there is currently no sunscreen that meets all of these criteria. The major choice in the U.S. is between “chemical” sunscreens, which have inferior stability, penetrate the skin and may disrupt the body’s hormone systems, and “mineral” sunscreens (zinc and titanium), which often contain micronized- or nano-scale particles of those minerals.
After reviewing the evidence, EWG determined that mineral sunscreens have the best safety profile of today’s choices. They are stable in sunlight and do not appear to penetrate the skin. They offer UVA protection, which is sorely lacking in most of today’s sunscreen products.
What is the difference between between Mineral Sun Protection and Chemical Sun Protection:
- Minerals “physically” block the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. They are light reflective. They sit on the surface of the skin and bounce the rays back off.
- Most sun blocks are “chemical” in nature, rather than “physical”. Chemical sun blocks absorb and scatter the UVA and UVB rays within the skin. Chemical sun blocks lose potency after a short time while loading the skin with chemicals.
- For those with sensitive skin, sun protection is a must. Yet, these chemicals may cause adverse reactions in the short and long-term.
Are the sunscreens waterproof?
We can not by law claim that any sun protection products are waterproof. The sunstick and lip balm are water resistant.
What is the shelf life of your sunscreen?
It will be good approximately 24 months from open date.
Keep in a shady and cool place when not in use.
Can the SunStuff be used on your face and under makeup?
Yes!
Does it smell?
No, its unscented. It does have a slight aroma from the organic ingredients and unrefined butters.
Is it greasy?
No, but it very moisturizing.
